Founded in 1982 by clarinettist and hi-fi enthusiast Antony Michaelson, Musical Fidelity first gained recognition for "The Preamp" - a moving coil and magnet preamplifier with a single 'Tuner' input. He made the preamps at home on the kitchen table, and sold them through a local dealer. Response was overwhlemingly positive and the units sold out almost immediately. This reaction encouraged Michaelson to make the decision to go full-time with his nascent company.
Once the company was established, Michaelson continued to commission and develop new products that implemented new circuit designs and technology, many of which became important milestones in the history of hi-fi audio.
The Encore series of streaming music systems was designed to allow for integration of streaming music services (Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz) into a preexisting system.
Encore is more than just a new product - it is a platform upon which the future of the company will be based.
